Starting off this project I had to get a scope of what a typical library website looks like and how all the pieces work together. My client who works at the Art Institue of Sacramento Library e-mailed me resources for what she's looking forward to having on or adding to her website.
Art Institute of Seattle Library Art Institute of Orange County LibraryI checked out other library websites from The Los Angeles Public Library to University of Indiana at Bloomington. I found of all of these sites had similiarities: search catalog, hours of operation, updates about the library, quick links, content driven navigation, and a lot of content on their books.
The next step was to meet with my client and go over features she wanted on her website for users and admins. I showed her my research on what I found useful and unimportant on the library websites I had come across, and we both combined our ideas into a helpful list; here are a few we went over:
I started creating a sitemap in Photoshop where I could resize pieces and move them around better than on paper. I prefer computer rather than pencil and paper.
Looking pretty good so far! Time to take it a step further.
